With European XFEL, a unique research facility is being constructed in the Hamburg metropolitan area. Beginning in 2015, scientists from around the world will be using the X-ray laser pulses of extreme intensity. The intensity of the X-ray radiation is expected to exceed conventional X-ray source by as much as a billion times.
