The theory mini-workshop “Quantum electrodynamics in strong electromagnetic fields” took place on July, 2nd. The workshop was organized by the Helmholtz Institute together with the ExtreMe Matter Institute (EMMI), and has attracted experts from Germany, Russia and Sweden who share the interest in studying few-electron systems as well as the quantum vacuum in the presence of strong electromagnetic fields.
The meeting has covered a number of challenging topics, such as
- Testing of quantum electrodynamics (QED) in the high-Z regime
- Nonlinear quantum vacuum phenomena
- Pair production in strong laser and Coulomb fields
- Super-critical atomic fields, heavy quasi-molecular systems
