The experiments of the currently being constructed FAIR facility require substantial computing resources. For the fully operational Modularised Start Version, up to 300,000 cores and 35 PBytes/year of disk and tape storage have been estimated. The current status of the computing systems at GSI and their planned evolution towards FAIR, as well as the supporting software developments will be presented. A first major milestone has been the construction of the new GSI data center “Green Cube” for FAIR, which is in operation since the beginning of 2016, and reaches an excellent power usage efficiency.
