Beschreibung

Plasma can sustain accelerating gradient many orders of magnitude higher than those available in today’s RF cavities or microwave technology. The accelerating wake fields can be driven either by laser pulses or by charged particle beams. The AWAKE project uses the proton bunches from CERN SPS ring. Because the SPS proton bunches are long, one has to rely on their self-modulation in a plasma cell. We will discuss the main principles of the proton-driven particle acceleration in plasmas.
